How does one get out da grey on the FP? Any help is appreciated, anyone who actually ungreys me gets a recommend, or an imaginary lollipop. Lollipop has greater value...

Only the writers can do it IIRC. I'm not sure what makes them decide, they just kind of do it.

The "proper" way is to write consistently good comments.
The way most people do it is messaging one of the main writers to recommend them, thereby giving them ungrey privileges.

They say you need a history of quality comments and conversations to get noticed for the FP, but it's impossible to do when you're grey and no one reads your comments. If you figure out another way, let me know. I've stopped commenting over there since no one reads greys.

You need a writer to 'follow' you on behalf of Jalopnik, that will allow you to always be ungrey'd on any article on the front page.
If someone in a thread likes your post, you are un-grey in that thread only. If the writer likes your post, you are un-grey for that entire article.

You've gotta be "consistently good." I'm in the grey, personally, so I don't even venture over there often. They say to make good comments on the FP, but there's no motivation to go there if you're grey! Just stick it out and keep commenting, I guess.

Establish a record of good comments.
Yes, I think a lot of them get viewed by the FP writers.
Ask one directly in a comment to a post they made.
No guarantees, but it worked for me.

Same here, but I didn't completely stop commenting. I hate the way kinja hides the grays unless you expand when there are more than 2 replies.
Kinja Front pages are like high school, you are either part of the cool kids or not.

huh. that might explain why some of my posts are grey and then i check back, and they arent.
I always assumed that they were simply going through a mod check (no racists comments etc) but then i realized...
